What is Mental Health?

Mental health is a spectrum of health that includes our emotional, social and psychological wellbeing. Emotional well-being determines how we handle certain things like stress, sadness, happiness and such. It determines our ability to openly talk about what is bothering us or we cannot talk about it hence we end up bolting it in. Social wellbeing is portrayed by our ability to exist peacefully with others in our communities. A mentally stable person will be able to live at peace with those around him or her such that if they have disagreements, they are able to solve them. On the other hand, psychological well being means that one is able relate with others well, they feel a sense of purpose and they accept themselves for who they are.

Many refer to mental illness as a state of running mad which is not true. You may be mentally unwell in many aspects like you may be undergoing stress or having severe sleeping disorders or even battling with addictions and such. This requires one to get assistance from professionals who will guide you on how to go about it.

Just like we have a running nose or an aching tooth, mental illness has its own signs. When we look closely at the three major aspects of wellbeing we can tell when we are deviating from our normal selves. It is important to get help at early stages other than waiting for later stages where some would have even gotten into addictions or other harmful patterns.Hence the importance of upholding mental well-being as it determines a lot especially oh how we handle stress, relate with other people and it affects how we think, act and feel.
